Managing Expectations

In meeting with clients, I often coach them that every transaction passes through “Dark Clouds”. That point in time, when we sort through challenges and remind them the sun is shining above those “Dark Clouds”.

As we were leaving a double closing with clients who sold their home in Lino Lakes and bought another in Maplewood, the client said, “We never had that dark patch of clouds you warned of, this was smooth sailing all the way.” After a pause, I shared, “You know when you were in Las Vegas shortly after your purchase? Well, the listing agent called to say his clients were backing out of the contract.” I explained to the agent that my clients couldn’t be reached, however, they had left knowing they had bought a house and there could be serious legal consequences if his clients didn’t follow through. They saw the light and closed as planned.
