After hearing about the flubbed announcement at the 2017 Oscars and mis-presentation, I was reminded about a Builders Association Awards Ceremony. I attended as the manager of a prominent home builder. With several hundred people in attendance, the MC announced the climactic award.
Seeing me in the audience, he repeatedly cajoled me to come to accept the award on behalf of the Builder who was not in attendance.
Reluctantly, I approached the podium to acknowledge that the winner was a competitor. Same family name, different company.
Thank heaven it was long before Social Media and I can live privately with my most embarrassing moment.
